Why European Coalition for Israel?
European Coalition for Israel is a unique grassroots movement, which is seeking to promote better relations between Europe and Israel through advocacy and education.
Being a voice
“Where Are All the Others?”
ELIE WIESEL
In 2000, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Elie Wiesel was invited to a crisis summit, hosted by the European Commission, to speak about the rise of antisemitism in Europe. In his speech, he explained how disappointed and helpless he felt and as nobody, except the Jewish communities, seemed to be reacting to the rise of antisemitism. – “Where are all the others?” he asked. European Coalition for Israel was formed in response to this question as “a coalition of all the others,” meaning non-Jews, who felt it was their moral obligation to stand up for the Jewish people and the State of Israel in a time of threat.
European Responsibility
“A Europe in which Jews are afraid is no longer Europe”
Federica Mogherini
In the wake of that conflict, the founding fathers envisioned a united Europe as a necessary step in order to avoid another deadly war within the region.
At the same time, more and more evidence was emerging on the Nazis genocide of 6 million Jews.
