ECI receives invitation to present new funding model in the the European Parliament

Image Jerusalem, December 2, 2005 – “The European leadership funding model” which has been developed by the European Coalition for Israel and was first introduced at the Annual conference in Brussels in September is continuing to generate a positive interest in the European Union. During a four day official visit to Israel last week by the European Parliament Delegation to the Knesset, a more extensive follow up version of the funding model was presented at a breakfast briefing in Hotel King David. At the meeting the author of the paper, Dr Jürgen Bühler, spoke about the need for the European Union to ensure that the funds which are allocated to the Palestinian Authorities are spent correctly and that the mismanagement from the previous years is stopped. Last week the paper was also presented to the Foreign Affairs Committee of the British House of Commons on their fact finding mission to Israel and Saudi-Arabia.

ECI applauds rapid reaction from the EU on Iranian hostility towards Israel

ImageBrussels - 10 November, 2005 – "The EU presidency and the European Commission deserves much credit for their clear and firm rebuff of Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's recent remark on “sweeping Israel off the map”. This is completely unacceptable behavior of a member state of the United Nations and a major trade partner of the European Union", European Coalition for Israel executive director Rijk van Dam said on Wednesday in the Hague where he met with Israeli Ambassador Mr Margalit.

"For months we have been alerting EU-officials and Members of the European Parliament in Brussels on the inflammatory language coming out of Teheran and we are pleased that the world community is finally waking up and taking action, Van Dam said.

European Coalition for Israel launches new funding model at conference in Brussels

EU Parliament building, Brussels Brussels, 23 September 2005 –  “The  European Coalition for Israel is urging the European Union to adopt a new Funding philosophy which ensures that funds will not only meet the needs of the recipient through a strict auditing process but that it will also be tied to strict benchmarking concerning human rights, freedom, equality and the rule of law.” This new model of “Moral Leadership Funding” was presented at the Annual European Coalition for Israel conference in the European Parliament in  Brussels on Monday. In a speech in the European Parliament Dr Jürgen Bühler from the European Coalition for  Israel presented the model which has also been submitted to the European Commission in an official consultation process on how to avoid that funds aimed at non-governmental organisations end up in terrorist hands.
