ECI Jerusalem Day diplomatic luncheon for UN ambassadors concludes:

The international community should honour its commitments to Israel

New York, 8th May, 2013 – A copy of the original document containing the Mandate for Palestine was presented to each participant at the ECI Jerusalem Day luncheon for UN ambassadors in New York yesterday. The original mandate document had recently been discovered in British archives, tucked away in the file of the African mandates for Togoland, Cameroon and East Africa.

’These documents are important because they remind us of the commitments made under international law to the Jewish people to settle in the mandated territory of Palestine. Although the League of Nations has been dissolved, the legal obligations are still relevant under international law and should be taken into account when deciding the pending issues for a final and comprehensive peace agreeement’, Dr Jacques Gauthier explained at the luncheon.

First Palestinian Human Rights Week in Europe:

“Palestinian leaders need to be held accountable”

Helsinki, 11th April, 2013 – The first annual Palestinian Human Rights Week in Europe concluded on Wednesday night with an open seminar in the University of Helsinki. At the seminar the organisers, European Coalition for Israel and Jerusalem Institute of Justice, challenged all those who care about human rights violations in the Middle East, to demand the same scrutiny of the Palestinian governing authorities as they demand from the Israeli Government.

The keynote speaker, Calev Myers from the Jerusalem Institute of Justice, pointed out that he has consistently challenged the Israeli Government on human rights and justice issues. He has been able to do so successfully, as Israeli society has an independent judiciary system.

Purim marks ECI’s 10th Anniversary

Brussels, 25th February, 2013 - As the Jewish festival of Purim went into full swing on Sunday, European Coalition for Israel marked its 10th Anniversary as a pan-European organisation in support of the Jewish state.

‘The organisation was formalized in the European Parliament in Brussels on Purim in 2003’, recalls Tomas Sandell, Founding Director of the organisation.
‘A group of members of the European Parliament, as well as Christian ministry leaders, decided that the time had come to make a clear stand for Israel and the Jewish people. Fate had it that the decision would be taken on Purim, the day that Jews celebrate the failed plot by Haman to eliminate the Jews in Ancient Persia, some 2,400 years ago.
