Annual Policy Conference 2017
14th Annual Policy Conference
30 March 2017 at 15.00 – 18.00
Jerusalem: cooperation or separation?
Fifty years since the reunification of Jerusalem. Is Europe promoting or undermining peace?
This spring will mark the 50th anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem. After almost 2,000 year of foreign occupation the Old City of Jerusalem was back in the hands of the Jewish people and they were free to pray at the Western Wall again. Since 1967, worshippers from all religions have been able to pray at their holy sites in Jerusalem.
But fifty years later, the sovereignty over Jerusalem is still contested by many in the EU and efforts are made by international bodies to deny the Jewish history of Jerusalem.
The conference will examine the role of Europe’s involvement in the conflict and whether the EU is promoting or undermining peace.
It will also shed light to the history and legal complexities surrounding Jerusalem as we celebrate Israeli-Arab cooperation and freedom of religion in Jerusalem.
